Yesterday and today I did not update my word count on the Nanowrimo site because:
1. I forgot (yesterday)
2. I got a new tattoo (today)
But over the course of the last few days I wrote 14,231 words which put me at
51,660 words this month!
I honestly didn’t think I could do it, much less do it early but there really is something to be said for not paying attention to the word count and just writing.
There’s a lot that can be said for just writing. Just writing works, worrying about everything else doesn’t. But, as always, it’s hard advice to swallow.
I haven’t completed any of the projects I set out to complete this month BUT I did get a lot accomplished and I look forward to my continued progress into the next year.
Right now my brain is dead so I don’t have anything profound to say about “winning” Nanowrimo.
Here’s a picture of my new tattoo:
It’s a cover up and you wouldn’t notice unless you looked really hard.
Word count: 2862
Projects: Havoc’s Moon (and two companion novellas to the series)
Goals achieved/notes: got a lot of side characters and more of my antagonist fleshed out. Progress is happening but the scene that I wanted to tackle today remains unfinished. There’s always tomorrow.
Total word count: 34,928
So I took a couple days off. I needed some serious recovery time, not from the holiday, but from life. So I binge watched Netflix and indulged in napping. But yesterday and today I’ve made tremendous progress and I may very well reach 50,000 by the end of the month.
Word count: 2,270
Projects: Havoc’s Moon
Goals achieved/Notes: I got my antagonist more flushed out, made a few MAJOR character changes, and started on a scene that had me stumped for months, seriously months. Mr. J and I went shopping today and we had an hour drive to the stores and back and in that time I went over a couple crucial plot points with him and he helped me iron things out tremendously. Seriously, I am seriously grateful beyond words to have a spouse that is interested in my writing.
Total word count: 32,066 (no, its not the 38,341 that I want it to be but it’s getting there)
How are y’all doing?
DON’T GIVE UP AND KEEP ON KEEPING ON 🙂
Word count: 2,337
Projects: All of the Echoes, Altar
Goals achieved/Notes: I’m too brain dead to think about that crap right now.
Total word count: 25,245
Day 16 I wrote nothing.
Today, day 17 was slightly more productive. I am determined.
Word count: 2050
Projects: All of the Echoes, Altar
Goals achieved/Notes: I wrote something. Sometimes just writing is enough.
Word count: 299 (Hell yeah!)
Project: Book of Revelations (a Slaughter Chronicles novella/side project)
Goals achieved/Notes: not a damn thing other than I wrote something which is better than nothing even if that something is not on my list of current projects but something completely different.
Total word count: 20,858.
This weekend I want to write at least 8,000 words to catch up and maybe get ahead. Wish me luck 🙂
I wrote like 918 words on day 12.
I wrote ZERO words on day 13 and I didn’t feel bad at all because I was watching standup comedy and I had a beer.
Today’s word count: 1081
Projects: All of the Echoes
Goals achieved/Notes: I FINALLY HAVE A NAME FOR A CHARACTER I HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING WITH FOR LITERALLY A SOLID YEAR! (for Havoc’s Moon)
I also did a group word sprint on the nanowrimo site. Writing for an hour when you’re trying to write for an hour is hard.
I did not make my word count goal today or catch myself up to where I am “supposed” to be if I consistently made my word count but that’s okay BECAUSE 1) progress is happening and 2) I’m falling in love with my characters again!
I haven’t hated my characters at all but I haven’t been super excited to see them on the page in a long time.
And I can catch up, do all the catching up, this weekend.
KEEP ON KEEPING ON!
